Piano division
Pianist Owen Lovell joined the UW-Eau
Claire music faculty in Fall 2008, having previously
served on the keyboard faculties of Texas
State University
and the University of Texas – San
Antonio. He has appeared as a soloist,
accompanist, chamber musician, and new music advocate in 12 U.S. states, Washington,
D.C., Canada,
Mexico, and the Netherlands.
Dr. Lovell maintains a two-piano collaboration
with Immin Chung Poser and performs as “Duo Paradox” with violinist Lynn
Ledbetter on a regular basis. He holds performance degrees from the
Peabody Conservatory and the University

Strings division
Cellist David Carter
is Professor of Music at St. Olaf College.
He holds degrees from the University
of Minnesota, Indiana
University and the University of Illinois
at Urbana-Champaign. Though legally blind as a result of the retinal disease
choroideremia, Dr. Carter maintains an active performing and teaching schedule.
He is cellist of the Melius Trio, Artistic Director of the Bridge Chamber Music
Festival, and recently served as Cello Editor for the Minnesota String Teachers
Association newsletter, StringNotes.
Dr. Carter has served as Principal Cellist of the Wichita Symphony, performing
as soloist with that ensemble in addition to the Minnesota Orchestra and the
St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
Voice
division
Mezzo-soprano,
Susan Druck
is an active soloist in oratorio, chamber music, concert and opera, and has
been teaching voice for the past 35 years.
Recent performances include: Bach’s B-Minor Mass, St. Matthew Passion
and St. John Passion, Mendelssohn’s Elijah,
Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde,
Verdi’s Requiem, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius and Sea Pictures,
Handel’s Messiah, and numerous Bach
cantatas. Recently Susan performed the
role of Mercedes with the Minnesota Orchestra in the Sommerfest production of Carmen.
She has also been featured as a soloist with The St. Paul Chamber
Orchestra, the Chicago Chorale, VocalEssence, The Lyra Consort, Dale Warland
Singers, the St. Mark’s Music Series, and the Minneapolis Pops Orchestra. A
Metropolitan Opera audition winner, she has sung such varied roles as Suzuki in
Madame Butterfly, Jocasta in Oedipus Rex, the Princess in Suor Angelica, and the title role in Carmen.
Susan has performed at the Oregon Bach Festival for the past 12 years,
both as a soloist and as a member of the professional chorus. Ms. Druck
holds a graduate degree in vocal performance from the University
of Iowa and serves on the music
faculty of Augsburg College in Minneapolis.
Deborah
Carbaugh,is a native of western New
York and is well known as a concert soloist in the
Twin Cities area. She holds a Master of Music degree in vocal performance
from State University of New York at Fredonia and has performed extensively in
the western New York
area, including solo appearances with Buffalo Philharmonic, Rochester
Philharmonic, and Erie Philharmonic. A Metropolitan Opera district
winner, she has performed roles with numerous opera companies, among them
Pittsburgh Chamber Opera, Syracuse Opera, and Artpark Opera. She is currently a
member of the voice faculty at Hamline
University and teaches private voice
at Wayzata High School. Deborah is a section leader with both
Minnesota Chorale and the choir of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis. She has
appeared frequently as a soloist with Minnetonka Choral Society, Rochester
Symphony Orchestra, Oratorio Society, and Minneapolis Pops Orchestra.
Winds division
Dr. Matt Hafar is on the faculty of Rochester
Community and Technical
College, where he teaches
music theory, world music, appreciation, and the brass studio. He is a graduate of St.
Olaf College
and holds the masters in trombone performance and the doctorate in theory from
the University of
Iowa. For the past 20 years, Dr. Hafar has been
teaching theory and brass at colleges in Iowa,
North Carolina, Colorado,
and now, Rochester. He is an active performer and adjudicator,
including positions with the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Carolina Waits,
Halcyon Brass and many others. For
several years he was an adjudicator for the Omega Psi Phi Talent Hunt in North Carolina, a large scholarship program in the
southeast U.S., as well as
for teachers’ organizations in Colorado and Iowa.
